All the best (II)
I went down to sign the petition yesterday. When I went there 3 of the democrats were lounging in chairs and surrounded by all sorts of camp fare - tins of biscuits, plastic bags, books and magazines. One was eating lays and reading the greatest 20 philosophy books of all time. Got to admire these guys for their tenacity: they and their allies have been stationed there 24hours a day for the past week already.
Two plainclothes policemen were seated some metres away from them, a video recorder on a stand recording everything. They work in 3-hour shifts, according to the democrats.
Was hoping for some action; prior to the visit my friend was telling me that the police may demand to see your IC and if so you mustnt do so unless they have legitimate reason - and backing - to do so. He said you must be clear of your rights and basically they can't do much to you if you didn't do much yourself. Nothing much happened though, the trip was an uneventful one though it was noted that the weather these days is hardly conducive for walks lasting more than 5 minutes. A trifle disappointed, considering that this is probably the closest to some 'action' I would get to see in my own little comfortable civilian life. But the point is the petition of course, which probably wouldn't do much, but I treat it more as a tool of expression rather than a tool of change. Nothing will change in this country. To quote from a friend, it's a happy FamiLee place.
