Bananas in Pyjamas
Im quite disappointed at the cartoons they're showing on Kids Central these days. No more Looney Tunes, no more Pink Panther, no more Captain Planet, no more Bananas in Pyjamas. In their place is a whole gamut of Anime-esque debaucheries, and so we'll have a generation of kids growing up with cartoonic figures who have large eyes and dragonball hairstyles.
What is so bad about modern cartoons? The ones in the past show more while having less dialogue, for one. And they have a much more relaxed pacing as compared to today's blazingly fast, action-packed productions. Tune in to any of them and you'll have the impression that the cartoon is playing at fast-forward speed. Or maybe you won't feel anything because you're already living in a society that lives in that kind of speed without realising it.
Whatever it is, I just found out Herge has two stories of Tintin before Tintin in America. Very nice stuff, the Tintin series, I think I've read most of the volumes more than ten times already. Favourite characters are Thomson and Thompson. Can any comic strip be as nice as it?

Granted that the cartoons nowadays are trying too hard much too often, but the animation industry has certainly come through a long way since the times of Captain Planet. If you'd watch over those cartoons again now with a clear mind, you'd definitely find that they will have many parts which are draggy and painfully slow even.
It's still true that those older ones definitely did better in the dialogues though. My guess would be that they have less budget or technological limits now which actually brought about the focus of these cartoons to more of a visual point.
Another point is that a child's mind takes pleasure in many many different things compared to the adult's. Also our dear Kid's Central is coincidentally the same channel as the Arts channel, not exactly a wonderful management mix.
Pink Panther's a classic though, something sure is wrong with them both arts or cartoon wise for not showing it.
Agreed.
A child's mind may take pleasure in many different things compared to an adult's, but watching today's cartoons gives them more pleasure at the cost of greater mind degradation and lowered artistic sensibilities.
