Love and coffee

Music: Oasis - Let There Be Love
Book: Matt Ridley - The Agile Gene

If we are loosely agreeable with Pavlovian conditioning I cannot help but wonder why some of my friends and acquaintances assiduously desire a relationship despite numerous painful setbacks in the past, while some others get suitably averse to the notion of love and romance and all that kind of thing.

Perhaps they have very influential oxytocin genes which are so strong, so blinding that neither logic nor associated pain can divorce them from romance, or their versions of it. Blindly, automatically, and untaught, we bond with whoever is standing nearest when the oxytocin receptors in the medial amygdala get tingled, as mr matt ridley puts it.

Well nothing to it, just a random nothing. And here's another:

MYTH: Expensive coffee tastes better than cheap coffee.

It doesnt. It's a matter of personal preference, which means for every one person who prefers starbucks there would be one or many others who would settle for nescafe. In fact I would venture to say a kopi-c at any kopitiam matches if not exceeds any coffee drink from any designer outlet. And it costs at least 4 times less too. What might come amusing is that very frequently we consumers are unable to recognize the difference between designer brands and non-designer brands: because in many cases (for foodstuffs) there isnt any to begin with. (Got this off 20/20 in case you're wondering)

Love, coffee, theyre all the same thing. They're all simple, basic essentials (essentials?) until we decide to artificially sweeten them and deceive ourselves to the point we cannot taste their original flavours anymore. Oh, and add in your own psyche too.

Every once in a while, I like iced mochas with whipped cream and some stuff added to make it taste sweeter (because I am unabashedly NOT a fan of eating/drinking bitter things). If you know anywhere that sells that cheaply, please by all means do inform me.

Isn't it the same issues with your famous amos cookies? Why do you buy expensive cookies when you can get cheaper ones? Obviously there is something different about the two that marks the freshly baked ones. For one, they are crunchier/crispier, the texture is better. =)

Not everything is the same, darnit.
