Essex County
I was reading Essex County during a Chinese New Year gathering. The comic is partly about loneliness, which fits the occasion well. It strikes me how old my cousins are already. It only seems like yesterday that they were just Primary 6 kids. Now one is going into army, the other into JC. I've got cousins on the other side of the family too, the ages of whom range from university-age to something.
I can see an unspoken sense of togetherness between siblings who have been siblings for over 4 decades. It's this shared past they have that underlies the fragments of their typically generic interaction. It makes them feel as though they're not talking to an acquaintance they only see twice a year. It makes them feel closer than they otherwise would.
It occurs to me that this blog is over 8 years old now. You can easily see some of my juvenile ramblings and writings over here. Perhaps in another 8 years' time I'll find whatever I have been writing these days juvenile. That will just be a testament to how much I've changed.
My phone's getting old too. Sooner or later it's going to give; some of its functionality already has. But it's ok. I'd hold on to it as long as I can. I feel a sense of togetherness between me and it. We have been through things together, and that makes me feel closer to it than I otherwise would.
