Hmm
I'm going to meet my usual group of board-gaming friends for a showdown this Saturday. I feel pleased to know a group of people who are passionate enough about games. Passionate enough, at least, to develop a kind of friendly competition amongst us. Let's see who will win this next game of Powergrid!
Someone pointed out to me that, for the first time in this blog's soon-to-be 9-year history, I have not made a post in more-than-a-month. I guess this is nothing surprising for me. I have not felt a strong desire to write here for some time now. For a few simple reasons. (1) General procrastination. I've been busy relaxing. (2) It's much more effective to share things on Facebook. More people view it, more people comment. (3) Related to the previous point, I just am not sure who lies in my audience here, and how enthusiastic they are in reading all this. Because my audience lies so amorphously, I just don't feel a strong pull to write here. But it's ok. I doubt I will stop entirely anytime soon. The anonymity is good sometimes, I can have the freedom to write and share certain things I wouldn't on Facebook. I can put the darker things here. This is darkerwhale after all.
Speaking of darker things, I have picked up Company of Heroes 2 recently. It's still in a beta state, but it won't be in 3 weeks. I intend to phase out Agricola and phase in this game over the next few weeks. It will be my new serious hobby, something that I would want to craft, analyse, develop. I'll talk about this more in the future I guess.
I've been trying to work on my research too. Not making much progress, but it's fine. I have realised that my body is fairly good running on instinct, or on auto-pilot. Sometimes I feel that it's better for me to take just a 1.5 hour nap (as opposed to 2 hours), and my body automatically wakes up after 1.5 hours. From past experience, there usually will be a time where my body starts feeling like wanting to do work. I derive less and less pleasure from procrastination then, and I automatically start being productive.
At a board games session at a friend's place recently, there was a dog. It was 14 years old, and was wheezing intermittently. It stayed with us as we played, for the most part. I remember it lying at our feet, under the table. Just lying there quietly. I wondered what it was feeling, if anything at all. Was it feeling the slight glow of contentment, like someone who was spending a Saturday playing games with fine company, or like a person who has won the lottery and is lying on a big bed enjoying the breeze, thinking about the future? It looked like it. It looked like it was feeling something.
